Thank you for this week! (December 1st)

Howdy folks!

Welcome back to the blog, its been on my mind to get back to regular posting, but its also been very busy!

Last week was an interesting week; I had mechanical issues with my truck so I had to bring it in the shop and get that sorted out.
We also had a decent snow storm and below freezing weather, so the outside work I’ve got open was on hold waiting for warmer temperatures.

My Facility Management division was busy handling questions and issues at two places I’m managing for my client, both having issues with water in the basement after this big storm that came through! We’re working through those issues with our network of pros to prevent that from happening again.

In the carpentry division, we’re on hold on two projects that require a little concrete repair before we can cut, fit, and install custom trim, one of which is around the garage roll door for a house and it’s just been too cold so far, so we’ll need to build some enclosures and add some heaters to go ahead and get this done.

I did build a new tote rack in my shop last week, similar to ones I’ve built for customers, but this one is twelve feet tall! My shop walls are 14′ high, so that extra height helps me make good use of the space.

I started out with a pile of lumber:

Laid a few boards out on the floor:

and started building.

For this project, I specifically wanted to create a system that is as simple as possible, with minimal cuts, tools, and math.

What I came up with is a 44.5″ wide by 32″ deep rack that will hold 19-27 gallon totes commonly available just right, and the smaller 14-18 gallon totes double stacked sideways in each slot.
This system is a great way to organize your stuff because you can access any one tote at a time without having to move other totes (for the bigger ones), and I can build these custom to fit your space, needs, etc.

After some time, some cuts (32 rails!) and some layout with the custom spacer blocks I made, we had a working tote rack:

From there I got it slid into its new space, leveled, and attached to the wall so it’ll stay strong and steady for many years of use to come!

If you’re looking for a tote rack, or other garage storage, don’t hesitate to reach out!

This week looks to be exciting and productive, so stay tuned for how things turn out!
